Non-canonical? 1) Don't forget, that, occasionally, I consider myself a contemporary painter. (Does modern painting still have a canon??)
2)This subject "Riding the Tiger" represents Ch'i, the emannation of strength. The Western idea of strength is associated with muscular volume and tension. The Taoist knows that
"He who acts defeats his own porpose;
He who grasps loses.
The sage does not act, and so is not defeated.
He does not grasp and therefore does not lose."
